JAKARTA, - Siapa menyangka kalau naga ternyata nenek moyang dinosaurus yang ganas, Tyrannosaurus rex alias T-rex. Tapi, jangan keburu berpikir naga yang dimaksud adalah hewan khas dalam dongeng China.
Naga di sini adalah nama fosil dinosaurus yang digali di Lisowice, 200 kilometer arah selatan Warsawa, ibu kota Polandia. Fosil tersebut ditemukan tim paleontolog yang dipimpin Dr Tomasz Sulej dari Akademi Sains Polandia. Mereka memberi nama fosil tersebut Naga (the Dragon) karena memiliki gigi taring yang panjangnya 7 centimeter. Hewan yang panjang tubuhnya sekitar 5 meter itu berjalan dengan dua kaki.
"Ini sungguh dinosaurus jenis baru yang belum pernah diketahui sebelumnya," ujar Sulej. Posturnya mirip T-rex, tapi hidup lebih dulu sekitar 200 juta tahun lalu.
Para paleontolog bekerja keras untuk mengumpulkan dokumentasi selengkap-lengkapnya sebelum menentukan nama spesies untuknya. Sulej mengatakan timnya akan memamerkan fosil dinosaurus tersebut pada 7 Agustus.
"Kami hampir dapat memastikan bahwa naga berburu hewan seperti pemakan tumbuh-tumbuhan dicynodon, yang mirip kuda nil namun lebih besar," ujar Sulej. Sebab, fosil dicynodon, seekor reptil yang diperkirakan sebagai kerabat dekat mamalia, tersebut ditemukan di lokasi penggalian yang sama.Sumber : News Daily
